2D Echo Services

Your heart works tirelessly, beating roughly 100,000 times a day to keep you alive and active. When you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or an irregular heartbeat, it is natural to feel concerned. The fastest way to gain peace of mind and protect your cardiovascular health is to look directly at how your heart is functioning.

At IPIMS Hospital, Panipat, our advanced Diagnostic Imaging Department offers state-of-the-art 2D Echocardiography (2D Echo) services. Using high-resolution sound waves, our expert cardiologists can watch your heart pump in real-time, instantly identifying structural issues, valve blockages, and muscle weakness.

What is a 2D Echo?

A 2D Echo is essentially an ultrasound for your heart. If you have ever seen an ultrasound used to check on a baby during pregnancy, the 2D Echo uses the exact same safe, non-invasive technology. By gliding a small wand (called a transducer) over your chest, the machine sends harmless sound waves into your body. These sound waves bounce off your heart and create highly detailed, moving, two-dimensional images on a monitor.

Is an Echo different from an ECG? Yes! An ECG (Electrocardiogram) records the electrical rhythm of your heart, while a 2D Echo looks at the mechanical structure and plumbing. They are often used together to give your doctor a complete picture of your cardiac health.

Why Might Your Doctor Recommend a 2D Echo?

Because it provides such a clear view of the heart’s inner workings, a 2D Echo is one of the most widely used and trusted diagnostic tools in cardiology. Your physician or cardiologist may recommend this test if:

  • You are experiencing unexplained chest pain, tightness, or pressure.
  • You suffer from shortness of breath, sudden dizzy spells, or chronic fatigue.
  • Your doctor hears an abnormal sound, known as a “heart murmur,” through their stethoscope.
  • You have a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease.
  • You are recovering from a heart attack, and the doctor needs to assess the damage to the heart muscle.
  • Our high-definition echocardiography machines allow our cardiologists to measure and evaluate several critical aspects of your heart health, including:
The 2D Echo measures your “Ejection Fraction”—the percentage of blood your heart pumps out with every beat. This is the single most important measurement for diagnosing heart failure and understanding how strong your heart muscle truly is.
Your heart has four valves that act like doors, keeping blood flowing in the right direction. The Echo allows us to see if these valves are opening fully or if they are stiff, narrowed, or leaking (regurgitation).
Chronic high blood pressure can cause the walls of your heart to thicken or its chambers to enlarge. The 2D Echo instantly detects these dangerous structural changes, as well as congenital defects (like a “hole in the heart”).
Sometimes, inflammation or illness causes excess fluid to build up in the sac surrounding the heart, making it difficult for the organ to beat properly. An Echo detects this fluid immediately, allowing for rapid, life-saving treatment.
In rare cases, blood clots can form inside the heart chambers, increasing the risk of a stroke. The high-resolution imaging of a 2D Echo helps identify these dangerous masses before they can cause harm.
