Radiology & Imaging Department

Welcome to the Radiology and Imaging Department at IPIMS Hospital. In modern healthcare, looking inside the body with crystal-clear accuracy is the very first step toward a cure. Whether you are seeking the root cause of chronic pain, require an emergency scan following a vehicle accident, or are coming in for a routine pregnancy ultrasound, our department serves as the highly advanced “eyes” of the hospital.

As a premier Radiology & Imaging hospital in Panipat, we are deeply committed to providing fast, flawless, and completely safe diagnostic care. Our facility on GT Road is equipped with the latest low-radiation technology and staffed by expert radiologists available 24/7. We ensure your treating doctors get the precise images they need instantly, so your treatment can begin without delay.

When is Radiology & Imaging Used?

Radiology is not a treatment in itself, but rather the essential tool that guides almost every medical decision made by your doctors. You may be referred to our department in Panipat for a variety of critical reasons:

  • Emergency & Trauma Diagnostics: Following falls, sports injuries, or road traffic accidents to instantly detect bone fractures, hidden internal bleeding, or brain swelling.
  • Investigating Unexplained Symptoms: To find the exact cause of chronic abdominal pain, severe headaches, prolonged coughing, or unexplained weight loss.
  • Routine Preventive Screenings: For early detection of diseases before symptoms appear, such as mammograms for breast cancer, DEXA scans for osteoporosis, or routine ultrasounds during pregnancy.
  • Pre-Surgical Planning: To provide surgeons with a highly detailed, 3D roadmap of your internal organs, blood vessels, or tumors before surgery.
  • Monitoring Treatment Progress: To check if a bone fracture is healing properly or if a tumor is responding effectively to treatment like chemotherapy.
We offer a comprehensive suite of diagnostic modalities. Here is a simple guide on how each major procedure is performed and what to expect:

An MRI uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves—not radiation—to create incredibly detailed 3D images of your brain, spinal cord, ligaments, and soft tissues.

  • The Procedure: You will lie flat on a motorized, padded table that slowly slides into a well-lit, tube-like scanner. The machine makes loud knocking or thumping noises as it captures images, so we will provide you with comfortable headphones or earplugs. You must lie perfectly still for 20 to 45 minutes.
  • Precautions: Because of the extreme magnetic pull, absolutely no metal is allowed in the room. You cannot have an MRI if you have certain cardiac pacemakers, cochlear implants, or embedded metal shrapnel. Please inform our technician of any past surgeries.

A CT scan takes a rapid series of highly detailed digital X-rays from multiple angles to create cross-sectional images of your bones, blood vessels, and internal organs.

  • The Procedure: You lie on a table that slides into a wide, donut-shaped machine. Unlike an MRI, it is very fast and open, taking only 5 to 10 minutes. For certain scans, a specialized contrast dye may be injected into your arm vein to make blood vessels or tumors glow clearly on the screen.
  • Precautions: If contrast dye is required, you must fast for 4 to 6 hours before the scan. We will also require a recent blood test (Serum Creatinine) to ensure your kidneys are healthy enough to filter out the dye safely.

Ultrasound uses safe, high-frequency sound waves to capture live, real-time images of the inside of your body. It is completely free of radiation and is widely used for abdominal checks and monitoring babies during pregnancy.

  • The Procedure: You will lie comfortably on an examination bed. The radiologist applies a warm, clear water-based gel to your skin. They then gently press and glide a handheld probe (transducer) over the area, displaying live internal images on a monitor. The test takes about 15 minutes.
  • Precautions: For an abdominal ultrasound (liver, gallbladder), you must come on an empty stomach (fasting for 6–8 hours). For a pelvic ultrasound (bladder, uterus, prostate), you must drink plenty of water beforehand and arrive with a completely full bladder for the clearest imaging.

X-rays are the fastest and most common imaging test, using a very small burst of safe radiation to capture images of dense tissues, primarily your bones and chest (lungs).

  • The Procedure: You will stand against a digital plate or lie on an X-ray table. Our radiographer will position you carefully, step behind a protective screen, and ask you to hold your breath for a single second while the machine clicks. The digital image appears instantly.
  • Precautions: You will be asked to remove jewelry, watches, or clothing with metal zippers over the area being scanned. Crucially, if you are pregnant or suspect you might be, you must inform the technician immediately before the X-ray is taken.

Important Patient Safety Precautions at IPIMS

Your safety is our highest priority. To ensure a smooth and hazard-free imaging experience, please review these general guidelines before your visit:

  • Pregnancy Warning — Radiation from X-rays and CT scans can be harmful to a developing fetus. Always inform your doctor and our radiology team if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Safer alternatives like Ultrasound or MRI may be used.
  • Contrast Dye & Allergies — If a contrast scan is advised, inform us if you have asthma, severe allergies, or any past reactions to iodine or medical dyes.
  • Metallic Implants — MRI uses strong magnets. Inform us if you have pacemakers, metal implants, artificial joints, aneurysm clips, or tattoos, as these may affect safety and scan accuracy.
  • Managing Claustrophobia — If you feel anxious in enclosed spaces, inform our team before an MRI. We can assist with comfort measures like an eye mask, companion support, or mild sedation if required.
